KOREAN WAR VETERANS INVITED TO SHARE EXPERIENCES: A student-led oral history project documenting the experiences of men and women enlisted during the American involvement in the Korean conflict of 1950 to 1953 is inviting veterans to participate. If you are a Korean War veteran or know of a veteran that would like to share his or her story with the students, please contact faculty members Marianne Leung or Jamie James (teachers) at mleung@sgis.org. Interviews will take place after January 2018. We ask that you do not pressure anyone to participate if they seem unwilling. Download more info.

LOWER SCHOOL TALENT SHOW: Save the date for the 2018 Lower School Talent Show, scheduled for Wednesday, January 17. Registration will take place on Wednesday, December 6 from 7:30-8:30am in the lobby of the elementary building at the Germantown campus and 7:30-8:30am at the welcome desk at the Memphis campus. St. George's students in 1st-5th grades may submit to participate in ONE act in this annual variety show. Acts should be prepared to list the names and grade level of all members, the name of the act, song lyrics, and contact information for an adult coordinator. LOWER SCHOOL (grades PK-5) / Germantown Campus

FIFTH GRADE FAMILY CHRISTMAS COFFEE: Fifth grade families are invited to join Allison Betchick-Harber and Traci Osterhagen-Brock, St. George's Middle School Director, for an informal Christmas coffee on the Germantown campus in the Cooper Library on Thursday, December 7 at 8:00 am. Traci looks forward to spending time with our fifth grade families and will offer tips on building positive steps toward a strong start to the middle school years. We will share highlights from your fifth graders' visit to the middle school, and Santa's elves will supply parents with some Gryphon holiday "swag" fitting for any tween's stocking. We hope to see you there!

SPRING ENRICHMENT CLASSES NOW OPEN: Extended Day Enrichment Classes are now open for registration on Veracross. We have some new classes and seasonal offerings along with our original favorites. Browse the options on our new webpage! Most classes will start the week following Martin Luther King Day, but please check your specific class as some dates vary. PARENTS NIGHT OUT: Need to do some last minute shopping? Have a Christmas party to attend? Sign-up your PK-5th grader for a Parents Night Out on Friday, December 8, 6-9 pm. The evening will be full of games, pizza, and a movie with Coach Tiffany, Hallie '15 and Griffin '18 Alden. The cost is $40 for the first child and $25 for each additional child. TRIP TO BERLIN, PRAGUE, KRAKOW & BUDAPEST: It may be over a year away, but it's always good to plan early when it comes to international travel and you won't want to miss out on this excellent opportunity to visit some of central Europe's most beautiful cities. Ms. Erlandson will be leading a trip for next year's 9th-12th grade students to Berlin, Prague, Krakow, and Budapest over spring break in March 2019. Parents are invited to sign up for the trip as well. Enrollment is now open through the EF Tours website, and all it takes to reserve your spot and lock in the current and truly reasonable price is a $95 registration fee. EARLY DISMISSAL FOR EXAM DAYS: Middle and upper school students will be dismissed at 12:30 pm Monday-Friday, December 11-15, for exams days. There will be no extended day care on these days.

CHRISTMAS BREAK: Middle and upper school students will be dismissed at 12:30 on Friday, December 15, for Christmas Break. There will be no extended day care on this date. Classes will reconvene on Wednesday, January 3.

OZARK WATER PROJECT SHOE DRIVE CONTEST: It is time to dig out all used and unwanted shoes from the closet! After the break, eighth graders and the Institute for Citizenship participants are hosting our annual Ozark Water Project Shoe Drive, complete with prizes! Winning middle school X-blocks will receive an ice cream sandwich party, and a pizza lunch will be provided for the winning upper school grade level. Shoe donations will be collected in the front of the school January 8-12. Please remember to tie shoelaces together, or bring pairs in separate plastic bags.



MIDDLE SCHOOL (grades 6-8)

MIDDLE SCHOOL ULTIMATE FRISBEE THIS FRIDAY! Everyone is invited to play ultimate frisbee after school this Friday from 3:45-5:00 pm. Pick up from this event has been moved to 5 pm because it gets dark so early. Come join us! Email sferguson@sgis.org if you plan on attending.

UPPER SCHOOL (grades 9-12)

SG-GO GOES MUSHING IN MAINE-SIGN UP TODAY: This is a unique opportunity for St. George’s students, and we are excited to offer the trip again this year. On this professionally guided trip, we will spend a night in Mahoosuc Lodge and then load up the dogs and head out on the trail. Students will captain a dogsled and cross-country ski on the frozen Lake Umbagog. We will spend two nights at the camp on the banks of the lake and then return to base camp. Please note that participants will miss school on Thursday, February 15 and will return late on Monday, February 19 in time for the start of classes on Tuesday The cost for the trip is $1700 which includes airfare. COLLEGE TOUR TO BOSTON & NEW ENGLAND JUNE 11-15 FOR SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: College Guidance is pleased to announce our first college tour to Boston and New England on June 11, 2018 with EF Tours. During this trip, we will see at least eight different types of colleges including Boston University, Boston College, Emerson College, Bates College, University of New Hampshire, Tufts University and Harvard University. We will also enjoy off-campus sightseeing where these schools are located in order for students to get a feel for the surrounding communities and what it would be like to be a student there. The price includes airfare and transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfasts and dinners, guided tours, fun activities and travel insurance. Enrollment can be completed online through the EF tour website. Space is limited!
