STILL NEED RESOURCES FOR 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR? For parents of students in PK-12th grade: if you still need to complete forms and download information for the school year, chances are you can find it on our our Summer Resources/Common Forms page.

NEW FAMILY TAILGATE IS THIS FRIDAY: Whether you are a family new to SGIS or a returning family, join us this Friday,  6-7 pm, at Ferguson Field under the tent as we host our new families for some light bites and warm greetings. New families should have received a postcard invitation; questions or RSVPs may be directed to the admission office at 261-2315 or admission@sgis.org or the Parent Programs office at 261-2389. Returning families: please stop in to help us welcome our newest families into the St. George's community. 

FIRST HOME FOOTBALL GAME: Please be mindful of the safety and well-being of your children during home football games, especially as they enjoy playing on the adjacent field. We ask that parents provide age-appropriate supervision, as needed, and work with their students to pick up trash and keep our facility clean. As a reminder, St. George’s fosters a commitment to sportsmanship and mutual respect. Thank you!

SPIRIT SHOP POP UP SHOP AT FRIDAY'S FOOTBALL GAME: The SGIS Spirit Shop will have a pop up shop open this Friday night at our football game! We will be open thirty minutes prior to kickoff and will close at the end of half time. Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted. Please come by to get your Gryphon gear!

If you attend more than 20 home sporting events per year, purchase an annual pass to save money! SGIS YARD SIGNS: Want to display your St. George's pride day in and day out? We have a number of exciting yard signs options on order that you'll be able to pick up soon. If your 5th-12th grade student plays a fall sport for St. George's, be on the look-out for sports-specific yard signs which will be distributed to families at upcoming parent meetings, at pick-up after practice, etc. Our goal is to cover the community with consistent-looking signs, showcasing both our athletic logo and our talented athletes across all sports. Throughout this year, we hope that each household involved in a school sport will join us in showing our Gryphon spirit to the entire Memphis community!

HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL LATE STARTS: Please make note that Houston High School will start late on the following date, disrupting normal traffic patterns around our Collierville campus: August 23, September 20, November 1, November 29, January 24, February 14, March 28, April 11.

JUDE WALK/RUN TO END CHILDHOOD CANCER: We are walking in honor and memory of every Gryphon warrior who has known this disease, as well as all in the St. George's community that have supported them and believe that childhood cancer will end. PHYSICALS FOR UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR: Please note that the deadline for physical forms and other paperwork was July 10 for fall sports. Because lack of this paperwork puts the school and your student at risk, students may not participate in practices or conditioning if the forms are not completed and on file with the athletic office. You may find all forms necessary to complete a physical packet on the athletic section of the school's website.

GRYPHON WRITING CENTER OPENS AUGUST 23: The Gryphon Writing Center will open Wednesday, August 23! The Gryphon Writing Center has trained middle/upper school student tutors who can help students before, during, or after any writing assignment in any discipline. We are located in the Library Classroom and are open Monday-Thursday during x-block (2:30-3:15 pm). Students may book an appointment in our appointment system (up to four students at a time may book for the same time slot) or drop in (dependent on availability). There are some days we will be closed for training, and those are reflected as "Not Available" on our appointment system. MIDDLE SCHOOL (grades 6-8)

SIXTH GRADE BOWLING EVENT THIS FRIDAY, 3:45-5:30 PM: All sixth graders are invited to join us for some fun bowling after school this Friday. Permission forms need to be turned in to the middle school office by Thursday, August 24. Download permission form.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MAP TESTING (MEASURES OF ACADEMIC PROGRESS): On August 28, 29, and 31, middle school students will sit for the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) standardized testing program. Download the letter from Ms. Traci Osterhagen, Middle School Director, with information about the test and some things you can do to ensure your children do their best and testing runs smoothly.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE SEPTEMBER 1: Join us after school, 3:30-5:00 pm, on the soccer practice field for some fun playing ultimate frisbee. Everyone is welcome. Pick-up will be from the Stokes Fieldhouse. No form is needed unless you plan on riding the bus to the Memphis campus after the event. Please contact Smith Ferguson at 901-581-8347 or sferguson@sgis.org if that is the case.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PING PONG & PIZZA SEPT. 8: Stick around after school on Friday, September 8 (note the date change) for some fun! Activities will include ping-pong, air hockey, and pizza. Everyone is welcome! Please let Mr. Ferguson know that you will be coming (901-581-8347 or sferguson@sgis.org). The event will last until 5:15 pm. No permission form is needed. Please bring $4 by noon on September 8 to Mr. Ferguson if you would like pizza. 



UPPER SCHOOL (grades 9-12)

BACK-TO-SCHOOL PARENT OPEN HOUSE: Please join us on Wednesday, August 30, for our Back-to-School Open House for the upper school, 5:30-7:30 pm. Please arrive at 5:15 pm to pick up your child's schedule in Beard Commons, then head to the dining room for a brief meeting beginning at 5:30 pm. From there you will be dismissed to follow your child's schedule throughout the academic building.

THE SENIOR ALMANAC: Attention Senior Parents! Did you know there is a webpage listing significant dates of senior events throughout the year? Bookmark the Senior Almanac page or just use the search field next to "Quicklinks" on the SGIS website and enter "Senior Almanac." This page is periodically updated as dates and/or locations of events are confirmed.

NINTH GRADE COLLEGE & WORK READINESS ASSESSMENT: On August 22, the ninth grade will take the CWRA, an assessment which measures student learning and provides meaningful data useful in strengthening curriculum and pedagogy. Since this is an online assessment, students need to bring their fully charged laptops to school this day. The assessment will be from 8:30-10:00 am. 

NINTH GRADE MAP TESTING (MEASURES OF ACADEMIC PROGRESS): On August 28-30, our ninth graders will be taking the MAP assessment. This is administered online, so students should arrive at school each morning with their fully charged laptop in hand. The assessment is approximately 90 minutes in length.

REGISTRATION FOR UPPER SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE OPEN: This year the conference will be November 17-19 in Murfreesboro, TN. Students who would like to participate should attend one of the upcoming interest meetings at school. Please contact Mrs. Philpott at ephilpott@sgis.org with any questions.

LOOKING TO TRY SOMETHING NEW? The Varsity Competitive Cheer Team will add several additional girls to complete our 2017-2018 football and competitive squad. We take girls with advanced cheer skills and girls with no cheer skills and mold them into a competitive team. If you are interested in learning more about Varsity Competitive Cheer, please contact Camilla Evans at sgischeer@gmail.com. Fall practices began on August 1 at the Collierville campus gym, and we would love for you to stop by. Again, no cheer or tumbling experience is required. Come and observe a practice and see if varsity cheer is for you!

NEW VEHICLES ON CAMPUS: If your student will be a new driver on campus or has changed vehicles over the summer, please complete the vehicle registration form. A hang tag will be issued by Kalyn Underwood, Upper School Dean of Students, within the first week of school. Your student may park on campus prior to receiving the tag so long as the student is registered.

TRIP TO AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, & FIJI: If you've ever thought about taking a trip to the South Pacific, here is your chance to check this one off of your bucket list! Ms. Erlandson, middle school American history teacher, will be leading a 12-day tour to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji in early June of 2018 (exact tour dates TBA) for students currently in 9th-12th grade. Fall enrollment is now open but will close on October 31. Enroll now to lock in the current price and reserve your spot on the tour. The price includes airfare and transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfasts and dinners, guided sightseeing tours led by expert local guides, museum entrance fees, and travel insurance. Parents are invited to sign up for the trip as well. Enrollment can be completed online through the EF tour website. LOWER SCHOOL (grades PK-5) / Germantown AND Memphis Campuses

FIELD TRIP SHIRTS: For those interested, new dri-fit field trip shirts are on order and will arrive to the school spirit stores in mid-September. Last year's field trip shirts are still acceptable for wear, and any remaining stock in the stores will be marked down to $15.

CARPOOL REMINDERS: In order to ensure the safety of our students and families, please refrain from using cell phones in the carpool line. Also, when exiting the parking lots, please use your blinker. Thank you for your partnership.

LOWER SCHOOL (grades PK-5) / Germantown Campus

ENRICHMENT CLASSES NOW AVAILABLE: As planned, the after-school enrichment class options are now open for registration. Please visit the Germantown campus extended day webpage and click on the "enrichment classes" button to log in into the registration portal. Classes relevant to your child's grade will display, and you may register within the portal. All classes will start the week after Labor Day, September 4. LOWER SCHOOL (grades PK-5) / Memphis Campus

LEARN TO SWIM: Splash Mid-South, a water safety initiative headquartered at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, is offering St. George's families a significant scholarship for swim lessons. Lessons will be Sept 4 at the Hickory Hill Community Center. Lessons will begin at 5 pm and run 5 days a week for two weeks. Download and complete the registration form and return it to the front desk or give it to your child's teacher. Please contact Mrs. Ballard at aballard@sgis.org with any questions.

LITTLE GEORGIES (infants and early learners) / Germantown Campus

DOGWOOD GATES: As a friendly reminder, the gates on the Dogwood side of campus, will be closed from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm (except for Wednesdays when they open at 1:30 pm). Please use the Poplar entrance during these hours when visiting the campus.
