PREPARE FOR THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR: Ensure a smooth beginning to the school year and download all necessary forms by visiting our Summer Resources/Common Forms page. Please note that correspondence from division/campus directors was emailed to all families on Friday, July 28 with important details about the coming weeks, including parent meetings, lower school class lists and early childhood attendance assignments for the first week of school. For your convenience, most information is available for download now on our Summer Resources/Common Forms page.

SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS: Make sure you have all the information for your child's summer work. Visit our summer assignments page. Note that middle/upper school mathematics assignments were posted July 1 in anticipation of the release of class schedules on July 10.

ALUMNI SOCCER GAME AUGUST 8: Alumni are invited to the annual coed alumni soccer game on Tuesday, August 8 at 6:00 pm at the Collierville campus. Please help us spread the word!

SEASON PASSES / ATHLETIC PROGRAM: Want to purchase season passes or show your spirit by purchasing an ad in the fall sports program? Visit our Gryphon Club page for all the details. Proceeds from last year went to the athletic department in their promotion of school spirit, including the funding of fan buses to state championship games, printed sports programs, student spirit give-aways, and senior night activities. SGIS YARD SIGNS: Want to display your St. George's pride day in and day out? We have a number of exciting yard signs options on order that you'll be able to pick up soon. If your 5th-12th grade student plays a fall sport for St. George's, be on the look-out for sports-specific yard signs which will be distributed to families at upcoming parent meetings, at pick-up after practice, etc. Our goal is to cover the community with consistent-looking signs, showcasing both our athletic logo and our talented athletes across all sports. Throughout this year, we hope that each household involved in a school sport will join us in showing our Gryphon spirit to the entire Memphis community!

HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL LATE STARTS: Please make note that Houston High School will start late on the following date, disrupting normal traffic patterns around our Collierville campus: August 23, September 20, November 1, November 29, January 24, February 14, March 28, April 11.



OPTIONAL MIDDLE/UPPER SCHOOL FAMILY ORIENTATIONS AUGUST 8: On Tuesday, August 8, parents are invited to meet their student's advisor and teachers. Middle school families will be welcomed at 5:30 pm, and upper school families at 6:30 pm in Beard Commons. This optional event is offered as an informal opportunity to connect with your student's teachers.

MAKE-UP NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION SESSIONS: For incoming sixth graders unable to attend the "Sixth Grade Shindig" on August 4, or new students in grades 7-12 unable to attend their orientation on August 3, the Technology Department is offering make-up sessions on both Friday, August 11 and Monday, August 14, 2:00-3:30 pm. An RSVP to Kevin Cranford at is not required but would help in our planning.

MATH CENTER OPEN FOR HELP AUGUST 7-10: Middle/upper school students needing help or just a place to work on summer math assignments are welcome to visit the Math Center August 7-10, 10 am until noon. The Math Center is located in the McClain Library on the Collierville campus.

JOIN US FOR MIDDLE/UPPER SCHOOL CONVOCATION DAY ON AUGUST 14: All families and friends of St. George's are invited to join us for the opening Convocation of the 2017-2018 academic year on Monday, August 14. The Convocation service will be held in the McNeill Gymnasium at 12:10 pm and will conclude at 12:55 pm. Please note that students should wear Friday dress on the first day of school and that, as result, Friday dress is not required on Friday, August 18. Download the Convocation schedule for all the details.

PHYSICALS FOR UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR: Please note that the deadline for physical forms and other paperwork was July 10 for fall sports. Because lack of this paperwork puts the school and your student at risk, students may not participate in practices or conditioning if the forms are not completed and on file with the athletic office. You may find all forms necessary to complete a physical packet on the athletic section of the school's website.

MIDDLE SCHOOL (grades 6-8)

NO EXTENDED CARE ON AUGUST 14: There will be no extended day care on August 14, Convocation Day. Dismissal will be at 12:55.

SIXTH GRADE BOWLING EVENT: After school on Friday, August 25 all sixth graders are invited to come bowling at FunQuest in Collierville. This is an awesome way to kick off the school year together as a class! Save the date – a permission form with more information will be coming out soon!

PING-PONG, AIR HOCKEY, AND PIZZA SEPT. 1: Stick around after school on Friday, September 1 for ping-pong, air hockey, and pizza. Everyone is welcome! Please let Mr. Ferguson know that you will be coming (901-581-8347 or The event will last until 5:15 pm. No permission form is needed. Please bring $4. 

MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Cross country practice for students in grades 6-8 will begin the week of August 7. The first week we will practice Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Please meet Monday at 6:00 pm at Johnson Park in Collierville, the first lot after you turn off from Wolf River Blvd. We will have a short parent meeting while the kids practice and will be done by 6:45 pm. MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER TRY-OUTS: Girls in rising grades 6-8 are invited to soccer try-outs August 8-10, 6:00-7:00 pm at the Collierville campus practice fields (near the Houston Levee entrance). Please bring a water bottle and wear cleats and shin guards. Email if you plan to attend of if you would like to play next year but cannot be at try-outs. You must have a physical on file. You may find all forms necessary to complete a physical packet on the athletic section of the school's website.


UPPER SCHOOL (grades 9-12)

THE SENIOR ALMANAC: Attention Senior Parents! Did you know there is a webpage listing significant dates of senior events throughout the year? Bookmark the Senior Almanac page or just use the search field next to "Quicklinks" on the SGIS website and enter "Senior Almanac." This page is periodically updated as dates and/or locations of events are confirmed.

LOOKING TO TRY SOMETHING NEW? The Varsity Competitive Cheer Team will add several additional girls to complete our 2017-2018 football and competitive squad. We take girls with advanced cheer skills and girls with no cheer skills and mold them into a competitive team. If you are interested in learning more about Varsity Competitive Cheer, please contact Camilla Evans at Fall practices begin on August 1 at the Collierville campus gym, and we would love for you to stop by. Again, no cheer or tumbling experience is required. Come and observe a practice and see if varsity cheer is for you!

NEW VEHICLES ON CAMPUS: If your student will be a new driver on campus or has changed vehicles over the summer, please complete the vehicle registration form. A hang tag will be issued by Kalyn Underwood, Upper School Dean of Students, within the first week of school. Your student may park on campus prior to receiving the tag so long as the student is registered.

TRIP TO AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, & FIJI: If you've ever thought about taking a trip to the South Pacific, here is your chance to check this one off of your bucket list! Ms. Erlandson, middle school American history teacher, will be leading a 12-day tour to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji in early June of 2018 (exact tour dates TBA) for students currently in 9th-12th grade. Fall enrollment is now open but will close on October 31. Enroll now to lock in the current price and reserve your spot on the tour. The price includes airfare and transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfasts and dinners, guided sightseeing tours led by expert local guides, museum entrance fees, and travel insurance. Parents are invited to sign up for the trip as well. Enrollment can be completed online through the EF tour website. Please contact your campus welcome desk if you did not receive this correspondence.

FIELD TRIP SHIRTS: For those interested, new dri-fit field trip shirts are on order and will arrive to the school spirit stores in mid-September. Last year's field trip shirts are still acceptable for wear, and any remaining stock in the stores will be marked down to $15.

LOWER SCHOOL (grades PK-5) / Germantown Campus

PARENT MEETINGS AUGUST 11: For the Germantown campus, grade level parent meetings are scheduled for Friday, August 11. These meetings will provide an overview of the upcoming school year. See below for the times and locations of each meeting. We hope to see all parents here on Friday, August 11.

These meetings will provide you an opportunity to the meet the teachers and receive an overview of the upcoming school year. See below for the times and locations of each meeting. Arrive early to turn in forms and address any incomplete paperwork. We hope to see all parents here on Thursday, August 10.
