SG901 and SG-GO: Commitment to Community & Environment

Like any good independent school, St. George's offers a vigorous academic program, robust co-curricular options, and a multitude of athletic opportunities. The way that we approach teaching and learning, however, is distinctive.

Embedded into St. George's DNA is a commitment to active learning – learning that is experiential, deep, and meaningful. Learning that connects students to real-world problems and asks them to develop solutions to those problems.

Out of this commitment comes parallel initiatives. We call our community-connection endeavor "SG901," and we call our environmental program "SG Great Outdoors," or "SG-GO."

SG901: Connecting to our citizenship and city

SG901 allows students to learn by becoming connected citizens who are keenly aware of the problems of of our city and deeply engaged with possible solutions. While this initiative is multi-faceted, the most visible aspect is an exclusive partnership with Serve901 and the SG-Bunkhouse, a shared space in midtown Memphis that sleeps more than 100 people and can be used for meetings, retreats, and "deep dive" learning.

SG-GO: Connecting to our natural world

SG-GO allows students to learn via connection to the environment. The initiative fosters stewardship of our three campuses (including recycling and gardening efforts), encourages the care of God’s creation, and promotes student leadership through a variety of outdoor trips.
