SUMMER ENEWS: Welcome to the fourth edition of Summer Enews. We welcome families who are newly admitted to the St. George's community as well!

PREPARE FOR THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR NOW! Get ahead of the game and access all the resources and forms needed to ensure a smooth beginning to the school year. Our Summer Resources/Common Forms page will help you prepare for the upcoming school year. Watch your inboxes for the late July email from your campus which will provide important information as well. For your convenience, most required forms are available for download now on our Summer Resources/Common Forms page.

TAX FREE WEEKEND: Don't forget to bookmark or print your child's supply list (found on our Summer Resources/Common Forms page) in preparation for Tennessee's Tax Free Weekend, July 28-30!

SHUTTLE REGISTRATION FOR 2017-18: Please note that as of July 2, transportation registration is closed. If you would like to be added to our waiting list, please contact Sissy Swindell at 901-335-5857 or sswindell@sgis.org.

NEED TO ORDER A LAPTOP? The deadline to order a laptop in time for guaranteed arrival by early August has passed, however, the order form is still available should you still need to purchase a laptop. Just visit this link for all the details.

SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS: Make sure you have all the information for your child's summer work. Visit our summer assignments page. Note that middle/upper school mathematics assignments were posted July 1 in anticipation of the release of class schedules being finalized on July 10.

RESERVE AD SPACE IN THE 2017 YEARBOOK: Support St. George’s Independent School by placing an ad in our yearbook! Ads are a great way to advertise for a business and/or honor a student, teacher, volunteer, club, or team. Click here to access the online ad agreement form. You can reserve your space now but ads will not be officially processed until payment is received. Space goes fast, so reserve soon! 

JOIN OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL IN THE BLOGOSPHERE: Keep up with Head of School Ross Peters through his blog, Ross All Over the Map. Recent posts will inspire you with words of wisdom from our graduates. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the main page to request notification by email whenever there is a new post.

DOWNLOAD AND PRINT REPORT CARDS: Report cards from the past academic year will be archived August 1. If you would like to download and print your student's report card for your own files, please do so by visiting your parent portal before August 1.

CALL FOR ARTISTS DEADLINE IS JULY 31: Are you an artist or do you know an artist who would be a great addition to the St. George's Art Show held in November 2017? To apply for participation, please fill out the application at http://goo.gl/forms/Vep4oj1c6L and submit 6-8 images representing your current work to twarlick@sgis.org. Indicate the medium, original size, and price of the artwork. The deadline is July 31.

ALUMNI SOCCER GAME: Alumni are invited to the annual coed alumni soccer game on Tuesday, August 8 at 6:00 pm at the Collierville campus. Please help us spread the word!

MIDDLE/UPPER SCHOOL – COLLIERVILLE CAMPUS

GRADES 7-12 NEW FAMILY ORIENTATION AUGUST 3: Students and their parents who are new to St. Georges and entering grades 7-12 are invited to a New Student and Family Orientation on Thursday, August 3. We ask that at least one parent attend. We will begin with breakfast at 8:30 am in the dining room of the Collierville campus with Tom Morris, Upper School Director, and Traci Osterhagen, Middle School Director. Our end time will be 11:30 am. More details will be sent directly to new families via email.

6th GRADE STUDENT/PARENT ORIENTATION (AKA "The Sixth Grade Shindig") AUGUST 4 at 8:00 AM: All sixth graders are invited to the Sixth Grade Shindig on Friday, August 4. At least one parent is required to attend from 8:00-10:00 am, and parents are encouraged to stay until noon. Please see the email that was sent to all incoming sixth grade families on July 25, or download the information sheet for all the details.

OPTIONAL MIDDLE/UPPER SCHOOL FAMILY ORIENTATIONS AUGUST 8: On Tuesday, August 8, parents are invited to meet their student's advisor and teachers. Middle school families will be welcomed at 5:30 pm, and upper school families at 6:30 pm in Beard Commons. This optional event is offered as an informal opportunity to connect with your student's teachers.

JOIN US FOR MIDDLE/UPPER SCHOOL CONVOCATION DAY ON AUGUST 14: All families and friends of St. George's are invited to join us for the opening Convocation of the 2017-2018 academic year on Monday, August 14. The Convocation service will be held in the McNeill Gymnasium at 12:10 pm and will conclude at 12:55 pm.

PHYSICALS FOR UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR: Please note that the deadline for physical forms and other paperwork was July 10 for fall sports. Because lack of this paperwork puts the school and your student at risk, students may not participate in practices or conditioning if the forms are not completed and on file with the athletic office. You may find all forms necessary to complete a physical packet on the athletic section of the school's website.

SCHEDULES AND TEXTBOOK PURCHASES: Please refer to the July 10 email from your division director which announced that student course selections for the 2017-2018 school year are now available via your Veracross portal. Please note that families newly enrolled at St. George's do not yet have access to the schedules on Veracross and received a a separate email from the admission office with student schedule and other information. The corresponding textbooks and materials can now be purchased through the MBS virtual bookstore through the following link: http://bookstore.mbsdirect.net/sgis.htm

MIDDLE SCHOOL (grades 6-8)

ORIENTATIONS FOR ALL 6TH GRADE AND NEW 7TH and 8TH GRADERS: Please see the details in the section above and make plans to attend! We look forward to seeing you there!

THEATER AND CHOIR OPTIONS: Contact Traci Osterhagen, Middle School Director, at tosterhagen@sgis.org if you need more information about choir and theater class options for the coming year. MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Cross country practice for students in grades 6-8 will begin the week of August 7. The first week we will practice Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Please meet Monday at 6:00 pm at Johnson Park in Collierville, the first lot after you turn off from Wolf River Blvd. We will have a short parent meeting while the kids practice and will be done by 6:45 pm. Questions? contact Coach Tiffany at talden@sgis.org. You must have a physical on file. You may find all forms necessary to complete a physical packet on the athletic section of the school's website.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER TRY-OUTS: Girls in rising grades 6-8 are invited to soccer try-outs August 8-10, 6:00-7:00 pm at the Collierville campus practice fields (near the Houston Levee entrance). Please bring a water bottle and wear cleats and shin guards. Email jwagner@sgis.org if you plan to attend of if you would like to play next year but cannot be at try-outs. You must have a physical on file. You may find all forms necessary to complete a physical packet on the athletic section of the school's website.

 


UPPER SCHOOL (grades 9-12)

ORIENTATIONS FOR NEW 9TH-12TH GRADERS: Please see the details in the the Middle/Upper School section of Enews (above) and make plans to attend! We look forward to seeing you there!

LOOKING TO TRY SOMETHING NEW? The Varsity Competitive Cheer Team will add several additional girls to complete our 2017-2018 football and competitive squad. We take girls with advanced cheer skills and girls with no cheer skills and mold them into a competitive team. If you are interested in learning more about Varsity Competitive Cheer, please contact Camilla Evans at sgischeer@gmail.com. Fall practices begin on August 1 at the Collierville campus gym, and we would love for you to stop by. Again, no cheer or tumbling experience is required. Come and observe a practice and see if varsity cheer is for you!

NEW VEHICLES ON CAMPUS: If your student will be a new driver on campus or has changed vehicles over the summer, please complete the vehicle registration form. A hang tag will be issued by Kalyn Underwood, Upper School Dean of Students, within the first week of school. Your student may park on campus prior to receiving the tag so long as the student is registered.

TRIP TO AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, & FIJI: If you've ever thought about taking a trip to the South Pacific, here is your chance to check this one off of your bucket list! Ms. Erlandson, middle school American history teacher, will be leading a 12-day tour to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji in early June of 2018 (exact tour dates TBA) for students currently in 9th-12th grade. Fall enrollment is now open but will close on October 31. Enroll now to lock in the current price and reserve your spot on the tour. The price includes airfare and transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfasts and dinners, guided sightseeing tours led by expert local guides, museum entrance fees, and travel insurance. Parents are invited to sign up for the trip as well. Enrollment can be completed online through the EF tour website.
